Mississippi Members Express Support for KC-46 Mission at Key Field to Secretary of Air Force

Washington, March 17, 2023

Washington – Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03), Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Congressman Trent Kelly (MS-01), and Congressman Mike Ezell (MS-04) sent a letter to Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall to express their support for the 186th Air Refueling Wing as it competes for a KC-46 mission at Key Field.

“Key Field in Meridian, Mississippi, is a prime location for the KC-46. It has the ability to service refueling tracks quickly over the Gulf of Mexico with Air Force fighter fleets and other military branches. Key Field also has the infrastructure in place to immediately accept the KC-46 aircraft, ensuring efficiency and operational readiness for the Department,” the Members write.

The lawmakers requested an update on the progress in developing the final criteria being used to determine where to locate a KC-46 mission at an Air National Guard facility versus a traditional Air Force base. They also sought a projected timeframe for the final basing decision to be made by the Air Force.
