I am pleased to announce that our office is participating in the Congressional App Challenge (CAC).
Each year, the U.S. House of Representatives hosts the Congressional App Challenge. This is an annual coding competition designed to encourage middle school and high school student participation in computer science and coding, regardless of experience. It is an opportunity for students to compete against other peers within their district by creating an original application in a variety of programming languages and on different platforms.
Student’s winning apps will be eligible to be displayed in the United States Capitol Building and featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website, House.gov. Student winners will be invited to attend the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington, D.C.
Participants must be a middle or high school student at the time of app submission.
Students may compete if they reside in or attend school in the First District.
Students may compete as individuals, or in teams of up to four (4) students. At least half of the teammates on any team must live or attend school in the First District.
All entries must be original in concept, design and execution.
The deadline for students to register and submit their app online is October 24, 2024.
Applicants can register for the competition and submit their apps on the Congressional App Challenge Website.
The 2024 Congressional App Challenge winner for Mississippi's First Congressional District is Jasmaan Banipal. The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science junior created MSAGRI, an app designed to help farmers make data-driven decisions using comprehensive visual landscapes. The app uses machine learning to analyze data from federal and state monitoring systems that track weather-related parameters. MSAGRI provides farmers with insights into factors such as wind speed, humidity, temperature, and planting conditions across various regions of Mississippi.
