Reps. Eshoo, Kelly Introduce Bill to Address Semiconductor Supply Shortage

WASHINGTON – Today U.S. Reps. Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA-18) and Trent Kelly (R-MS-01) announced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to bolster American semiconductor production and supply chains. The Investing in Domestic Semiconductor Manufacturing Act ensures that federal incentives to increase domestic semiconductor manufacturing include U.S. suppliers that produce the materials and manufacturing equipment that enable semiconductor manufacturing, strengthening the supply chain for semiconductors. This bill comes amid a major global shortage of semiconductors that has caused disruptions for a wide range of industries.
“The current semiconductor shortage is a major blow to our nation’s economy, and addressing this supply chain issue is critical for our national security,” said Rep. Eshoo. “Our bipartisan legislation ensures microchip manufacturing tools and materials can be made domestically, creating good paying American jobs and improving the resiliency of our domestic semiconductor industry. Semiconductors are the foundation of Silicon Valley, which I’m proud to represent in the House, and are essential to countless aspects of our modern economy.” “The semiconductor shortage is a critical issue impacting the lives of Mississippians and scores of Americans,” Rep. Kelly said. “The battle to overcome the supply shortage can be won on the domestic front through investment.
