Kelly Announces Art Contest Winner

Washington, April 20, 2021

WASHINGTON - I am pleased to announce the Mississippi First Congressional District's first place winner of the Artistic Discovery Contest, a nationwide high school art competition sponsored by members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Macon Bentley's submission is titled "No Fish Today." Macon drew an image of his brother, Robert, using a photograph and a graphite pencil. The French Camp Academy junior has enjoyed drawing images since he was eight years old. Macon is the son of Chuck and Kathy Bentley.

Background: The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of high school students. To date, more than 650,000 students have participated in the competition. The overall winner of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will include artwork from other contest winners. A winner is selected from each Congressional district within every state.
