June 20, 2025 Dear Friend,
On Saturday, we celebrated the 250th birthday of the United States Army, a milestone that marks two and a half centuries of unwavering courage, service, and sacrifice.
Military units and veterans gathered in Washington, D.C., for a special parade commemorating the occasion. The event showcased the strength, tradition, and enduring dedication of those who have worn the uniform. President Donald Trump attended the celebration and praised the Army's legacy, calling it "the greatest, fiercest, and bravest fighting force."
Since 1775, the U.S. Army has stood as a pillar of strength and defense for our nation, answering the call in times of war, peace, and crisis. From the battlefields of the Revolutionary War to today's missions around the globe, the Army has remained steadfast in its duty to protect the freedoms we hold dear.
We are forever grateful to the men and women who have served, as well as to the families who stand behind them. Your commitment continues to inspire generations of Americans.

Last week, the House Armed Services Committee held a hearing with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and General Dan Caine to review the Department of Defense's FY26 budget. It was an honor to engage with them on the critical issues facing our national defense.
One of the key topics I discussed was the urgent need to strengthen our maritime capabilities. A strong maritime industry is the backbone of a secure and resilient nation. I'm encouraged to see the Department of Defense recognizing this priority and taking steps to restore American competitiveness at sea.
We must act swiftly to ensure the U.S. remains a global maritime leader, not just for today's challenges, but for the security of future generations.

Last week, our nation celebrated Women Veterans Day, a time to honor the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of the women who have bravely served in uniform. These women have broken barriers, led with strength, and helped shape the future of our Armed Forces.
We proudly recognize and thank all the women who have answered our nation's call to serve. Your dedication to defending our freedoms and serving with honor is an inspiration to us all.
Let us continue to express our gratitude not just on this day, but every day, as we reflect on the vital role women play in our nation's defense.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins testified before the House Agriculture Committee. I highlighted the Committee's ongoing efforts to support our farmers and recognized Secretary Rollins' key role in advancing those priorities.
As a member of the Committee, I remain committed to strengthening American agriculture and ensuring our producers have the tools they need to succeed. Supporting our farmers is vital to both our economy and our national security.

I am proud to introduce Hugh Callicutt, one of our summer interns. A student at the University of Mississippi, Hugh is studying accounting with a minor in military science. He serves in the Mississippi Army National Guard and is a cadet in the Ole Miss Army ROTC. Hugh is excited to further explore his interests in defense policy and agriculture.
My office offers internships for college students each semester and during the summer. This is an amazing opportunity for students. Interns will work with staff members to learn the legislative process, assist with daily tasks, attend training, perform administrative duties, and aid in constituent services in an educational capacity.
I'd also like to introduce another one of our summer interns, John Geraght Yoste. A native of Oxford and a rising senior at the University of Mississippi, John has spent the summer gaining firsthand experience with the legislative process, attending hearings, assisting with constituent services, and leading tours of the U.S. Capitol. "It's been an honor to support the work of Congressman Kelly and represent Ole Miss on the Hill," John said.
It's a pleasure to have both of them as part of Team Kelly this summer.
If you would like to apply for an internship through my office, please complete our online application. For more information, please visit trentkelly.house.gov or contact our intern coordinator at ctkinternship@mail.house.gov

Halle Riddle, winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Mississippi's First Congressional District, traveled to Washington, D.C. last week to be recognized at the national awards ceremony. Her winning piece, Tunnel Vision, is now displayed in the Cannon Tunnel leading to the U.S. Capitol. During her visit, I had the honor of meeting Halle and her family.
Halle received two airline tickets to attend the ceremony in the nation's capital. A Booneville native, she was accompanied by her family members Jase Riddle, Mollie Anna Riddle, Kami Caver, and Jim Caver. While in D.C., the family toured the U.S. Capitol Building with my office.
"This event was incredibly captivating and inspiring. I was in awe by having my artwork displayed in the Capitol Building. I enjoyed exploring the Capitol and meeting many other talented artists who were in similar positions. It was an unforgettable experience," Halle said. "I am deeply grateful for being selected for this honor and the opportunities it has offered me. This inspiration I gained will undoubtedly influence my future as both an artist and an individual."
"This was our first trip to Washington, and Rep. Kelly and his office made us feel right at home," said Halle's mother, Kami Caver. "They were so gracious with their time during the office visit and Capitol tour. It's an experience our family will cherish forever."
The Congressional Art Competition is an annual event that highlights and encourages the creative talents of high school students across the country. One winner is selected from each Congressional district. For more information, please visit trentkelly.house.gov
