Dear Friend,

Recently, I was proud and honored to recognize the accomplishments and sacrifices of our National Guard and Reserve components on the House Floor. In Mississippi, we have the sixth oldest active regiment, the 1st Battalion, 155th Infantry Regiment - the Mississippi Rifles. For over 250 years, brave Americans have answered the call to service to protect our homeland, democracies abroad, and to conduct disaster response or support civil authorities during a crisis. Winchester Ammunition, located in Oxford since 2005, plays an important role in America's national defense capabilities. The company employs 1,500 people who work around the clock to manufacture ammunition that support America's warfighters, law enforcement, and enthusiasts. During a recent tour of the plant, we met with employees and the leadership team to discuss numerous topics including the facility's strong safety record, production levels, and stability for the future.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Joshua Flores to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Joshua, a resident of Southaven, is a Northpoint Christian School senior. He has achieved great success in the classroom while devoting himself to numerous extracurricular activities and community service projects. Joshua is the son of Raymond and Tammy Flores. 

"I am hardworking and ambitious with the desire of gaining a degree in Aeronautical Engineering," Joshua said. "I am committed to serving my country."

As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I will continue to work on behalf of Mississippi's agriculture industry. Congratulations to Lindsay Grantham! The Booneville High School 10th grade student is the winner of Mississippi's First Congressional District Art Competition. Lindsay used charcoal to draw an image of a family pet. Her artwork titled "Bella" will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol complex along with winners from throughout the United States. They will be recognized during a ceremony in Washington, D.C. Lindsay is the daughter of James and Tonia Grantham. To learn more about the competition, please click on the link.
