Dear Friend,

In recent weeks, many of you have reached out to our offices to express serious concerns about the massive spending bills pending in Congress. We must seek solutions to improve the quality of life without breaking the backs of struggling American families, farmers, and small business owners. I will continue to do everything in my power to make sure your concerns about progressive tax-and-spend proposals are heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill.

Last week, I joined my colleagues on the House Armed Services Committee to discuss the failed withdrawal from Afghanistan. The Biden Administration has made a host of strategic failures and they must be held accountable. The American people deserve to know the truth. I remain deeply concerned for the lives of thousands of American citizens who were left behind. We must act swiftly to get our people home. Military service is an honor and a privilege. In every war or conflict, Americans have stepped up to defend our great Nation. For some, that journey begins at one of America's prestigious service academies.

As your Representative, one of the most important duties I have is to nominate young people from Mississippi's First Congressional District to attend a Service Academy. Recently, I hosted the Virtual Academy Day 2021. We had representatives from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Marion Military Institute, and the Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi ROTC programs. October is National Women's Small Business month and an opportunity to recognize the important role women play in supporting the economy. Mittie Montgomery is the owner of Christian Connections in Pontotoc. In November, she will celebrate her tenth year in business. Mrs. Montgomery sells Bibles, devotionals, Christian literature for children, and materials used by several local churches. 

Republicans and Democrats united in a bipartisan spirit at Nationals Park for the 2021 Congressional Baseball Game. Republicans secured the win 13-12! The real winners are the Washington, D.C., area charities and the U.S. Capitol Police Memorial Fund which will share in the proceeds from the game. 

Welcome to our fall intern Christian Campbell-Carrigg. Christian is a sophomore at Louisiana State University, where he is majoring in Political Science. He is learning about the legislative process in detail. Christian is the son of MSG Joshua Carrigg and Austin Carrigg. We are proud to have this outstanding young man working with our team.
