Dear Friend,
Securing our border is vital to our success as a nation! I strongly support President Trump's efforts to explore all options to secure the border and I will do everything within my power to support policies that fulfill our commitment of a strong national security.
committee assignments for the 116th Congress |
It is an honor to be selected Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee. Across Mississippi and the nation, men and women in uniform have earned and deserve a strong voice on Capitol Hill. Through this new role, I will work with my colleagues to provide oversight on all military and Department of Defense (DoD) civilian personnel policies. Additionally, I will focus on issues related to the overall well-being for our men and women in uniform, compensation and benefits, military healthcare, and military education.
I have retained my committee assignments from the 115th Congress and will serve on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Committee on Agriculture, and the House Small Business Committee.
House Armed Services Committee
I am proud to continue my work with Ranking Member Thornberry in the 116th Congress. Ranking Member Thornberry's leadership as Chairman last Congress helped rebuild readiness that allowed our military men and women to have the tools they need to focus on their most important duty - defending our nation.
House Committee on Agriculture
As Mississippi's top industry, agriculture contributes $7.4 billion to the state economy and employs some 260,000 workers. The passage of the 2018 Farm Bill was the highlight of the 115th Congress, which provided farmers an adequate safety net that they desperately needed during times of low commodity prices and looming trade wars. I am proud to continue to serve with Ranking Member Conaway and my colleagues on the committee and will continue to work to advance polices that encourage rural development and make the agriculture industry successful.
House Small Business Committee
I look forward to once again working with my colleagues on the House Small Business Committee under the leadership of Ranking Member Chabot. From Main Streets to factories, Mississippi's small businesses are thriving and I am ready to continue the committee's work to pave a way for their success.

protecting the unborn |
Recently, I expressed my continued opposition to using federal dollars to fund abortions in a letter to President Donald Trump. In the letter, my colleagues and I pledged to support a veto by the President of any bill that would jeopardize the strength of current pro-life laws on the books. To read the letter, please click on the link.
Additionally, I am proud to have cosponsored the Defund Planned Parenthood Act, Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, Protecting Life and Taxpayers Act, Life at Conception Act, Heartbeat Protection Act, Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, Protecting the Dignity of Unborn Children Act, and the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act.

Oxford Police Department Officer of the Year
Sergeant Kevin Parker |
Every day in Mississippi and across our nation, law enforcement members report to duty, knowing their next shift could be their last. These men and women willingly lay down their lives to protect our safety. Recently, I was honored to take part in the Oxford Police Department's Officer of the Year Banquet. This was an opportunity to personally thank them for their pledge to protect lives and property, regardless of the risks that come with this noble profession.

honoring our veterans
|
Military veterans have long answered the call to serve America. From Mississippi and across the nation, these brave Americans left their families to travel across the world to fight for our freedoms. Last Sunday, I presented an American Flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol to Vietnam War Veteran Bud Taylor.
Mr. Taylor is a native of Itawamba County and a member of Ozark Baptist Church. Hundreds of his fellow church members came to witness Mr. Taylor accept the flag which he then dedicated to past, present, and future veterans of Itawamba County.
