The late William E. Tabor, Jr., a native of Louisville, Mississippi, distinguished himself in service to America during World War II. In the summer of 1941, he joined the U.S. Army and was sent to the Philipine Islands and stationed at Clark Field, Manila. He was among the thousands of men sent to defend the Bataan Peninsula. After running out of ammunition, they were forced to surrender on April 9, 1942. Mr. Tabor became a Prisoner of War (POW), greatly suffering until he and his fellow warriors were liberated in December 1945.
Recently, It was my honor to be able to present his family with the Bronze Star Medal in memory of Mr. Tabor's heroic service. Every day, we lose more and more of our World War II veterans. We must take every oportunity to thank these men and women who are still with us and honor those who have passed away.
