August 12, 2016 Dear Friend, This week I had the honor of joining State Representative Randy Boyd (R-Mantachie) in a military medal ceremony ceremony for WWII Army Veteran Orva "O.R." Dulaney, Medic.
Mr. Dulaney was called to serve his country during WWII. He answered and became a U.S. Army Medic. His service as a medic meant that he would enter the battlefield with only a knife for protection. He cared for the wounded and there were many, including the wounded at Omaha Beach on D-Day. Mr. Dulaney repeatedly exercised bravery on the battlefield. His performance in combat would earn him medals including the Bronze Star for exemplary service in combat, a Combat Medical Badge, the Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, and the European-African Eastern Campaign Medal. Sadly, when Mr. Dulaney returned form the war to Mantachie, his medals were stolen. He was working at a grocery store owned by his father-in-law. He wore his Army jacket to work that day and placed it in the back of the store. That would be the last time he saw his medals.
Upon learning about Mr. Dulaney's missing medals, State Representative Boyd stepped in to help, calling on our team to get involved as well. Working together, we were able to expedite the process and achieve the goal of getting Mr. Dulaney the medals that he earned and deserves once again.
I am honored to have been a part of restoring these medals to a man who risked his life in service to our great nation.
