Dear Friend,

With the inauguration of a new president last week, our country has the opportunity to get back on the right path. I am eager to work with President Trump to ensure that the people in my district have the opportunities to provide for themselves and their families without Washington getting in the way. From the conservative legislation the House will pass rolling back restraints on businesses and job growth to the reversal of harmful policy from the past administration, this work is well underway.

ACTIONS IN THE HOUSE

No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act

On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution contains a "right" to abortion. Since then, over 58 million unborn children have been legally aborted in this country. This grim anniversary was marked with the annual March for Life rally held in DC today. Hundreds of thousands of Americans turned out to take part in this peaceful protest against legalized abortion on demand.

I am hopeful we will make many advances to defend life in the 115th Congress. On Tuesday, I was proud to support H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 238-183. If signed into law, this bill would codify the Hyde Amendment and ensure that no taxpayer is forced to fund abortion, either directly or indirectly. Since it was first enacted in 1976, the Hyde Amendment has saved over two million lives, and it is time to make it a permanent law.

I was also supportive of President Trump's reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy, ensuring that tax dollars that support global health initiatives do not go to organizations that perform or counsel for abortions. We all agree that access to healthcare services is important, but abortion is not healthcare, and life must be defended at every stage.

While these actions alone will not end abortion in this country, it is a start, and a statement that all lives - even those of unborn children - are valuable and should be protected.
