Dear Friend,

It is inspiring to see young people who wish to serve our great Nation in the U.S. Armed Forces. This commitment to protect America at home and abroad demonstrates courage and bravery. Every year, I have the honor to host Academy Day, an opportunity to connect students, parents and teachers with Service Academy and ROTC representatives. Last year, we had a large turnout of students who traveled to the University of Mississippi! Save the date for Academy Day 2020. This year, we return to Ole Miss on October 10 at 10:00 a.m. We plan to take all precautions to once again host the event at the Jackson Avenue Center.

As your Representative, it is a privilege to nominate Mississippians from the First Congressional District who wish to attend one of America's prestigious Service Academies. 2020 u.s. air force grad jessica frederick

2d Lt Jessica Frederick is a 2020 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. The Behavioral Science and Leadership major is stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas, a training base for intelligence personnel. As an intelligence officer, Jessica will gather and analyze data from external threats. "I'm super excited," Jessica said. "I am eager to work with experts in the intelligence community."

Prior to her arrival, she was able to spend 60 days with her family in Monroe County. Currently, Jessica's dad, Chaplain Mark Frederick, is stationed at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. Jessica said he was a preacher in Monroe County at Becker Baptist Church when he decided to go active duty in the 90s and pursue his dream. He was the first person in the immediate family to leave Mississippi due to his career and calling to be a chaplain in the U.S. Army. "I did not grow up in Mississippi, but we visited every summer," Jessica said. "Our first stop was always the Dairy Kream in Amory to get a burger and ice cream!"
