Dear Friend,

Americans have answered the call to fight for our great nation and the freedoms we all enjoy.  Many have paid the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our way of life.  One of those war patriots was U.S. Army Sergeant Julius McKinney.  He was the youngest boy of eight children who was raised in Marion, Alabama.  When he was 21-years-old, SGT McKinney joined the Army.  SGT McKinney fought in some of the fiercest conditions imaginable during the Korean War.  He did not survive.  SGT McKinney was listed Missing in Action for decades before the Army identified his remains.  This week on the House floor, I was honored to talk about this family's decades-long effort to find him and how they finally received closure.  To watch the video, please click on the link.

155th armored brigade combat team receives award

One of the biggest challenges for military men and women is being away from their families, fighting a war in distant lands.  In 2005, members of Mississippi's 155th Brigade Combat Team, including myself, deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  During OIF, 16 Mississippi soldiers from the 155th ABCT paid the ultimate sacrifice.  Overall, 28 soldiers and civilians assigned to the 155th lost their lives.  Their service will not be forgotten nor the acts of bravery we witnessed during the deployment.

The 155th ABCT is once again deploying to the Middle East.  At this hour, they are training at Fort Bliss, Texas, preparing to support Operation Spartan Shield.  They will soon leave for Kuwait.  Recently, they took part in a ceremony to honor the 155th which was awarded the U.S. Army Navy Unit Commendation Citation for distinguished service during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005.

hago automotive

Congratulations to Hago Automotive Corporation in Iuka.  Recently, the BMW automotive supplier announced plans to expand.  Hago will double the size of their 50,000-square-foot facility.  The expansion will enable them to increase their workforce from 125 to 200 team members by the end of the year.

Alfred Geiger, Hago Automotive Corp. president, said the installation of a $4 million transfer stamping press will enable them to meet the growing demand for the products that they manufacture.  We are thankful for Hago Automotive's investment in the First District which provides jobs and helps to improve the quality of life for Mississippians.

2018 congressional baseball game for charity

This week, Republicans and Democrats return to Nationals Park to compete in the 2018 Congressional Baseball Game for charity.  Last year, we raised $1.5 million which was used to assist underprivileged children.  Proceeds were also given to the U.S. Capitol Police Memorial Fund and to the Fraternal Order of Police.  We will not forget the bravery displayed by law enforcement members who placed their lives on the line to protect our safety on the day of the shooting at baseball practice.  House Majority Whip Steve Scalise continues to make a remarkable recovery and I am pleased to see him back at work.  We look forward to once again uniting on the field to demonstrate our shared desire to help our fellow Americans in need.

Baseball practice has been an opportunity to give a shout out to community colleges in the First District including Itawamba Community College, Northeast Mississippi Community College, and Northwest Mississippi Community College.  During the game, I will be proudly wearing the Ole Miss Rebels' jersey.  You can watch the 2018 Congressional Baseball Game for Charity which begins at 6:05 CST on C-SPAN.  The game will also be streamed live on Facebook.  For more information, please click on the link.
