Dear Friend,

There is nothing more important than listening to your concerns and making sure they are heard loud and clear on Capitol HIll. This two-week work period is an opportunity to meet with our constituents over a cup of coffee, on the job, in the field, or in their living rooms. We have begun that effort in Clay, Marshall,  Pontotoc, and Union Counties. Our work will continue in DeSoto, Lowndes, Choctaw, Winston, Lee, Itawamba, and Lafayette counties. Your opinion on the issues remains a top priority as we work to get our nation back on the right path.

University of Mississippi Medical Center

This week, I traveled to Jackson to see firsthand the state-of-the-art facilities at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. UMMC provides exceptional real-world training for 3,000 students and clinical services on three campuses in Jackson, Grenada, and Lexington. Their medical flight program includes a fleet of helicopters used to quickly transport patients in need of emergency services. Helicopters are also used for disaster response. Children's of Mississippi hospital includes cutting-edge technology which is used to save the lives of critically ill babies. Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Dr. LouAnn Woodward talked about their plans to expand the facility. They are well on their way to making that happen. UMMC's mission to deliver world-class medical care for every patient, every day combined with advanced medical research, and a commitment to educating healthcare leaders of the future is a profound achievement for Mississippi.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi

It's hard to believe 10 years have passed since Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi broke ground on their Blue Springs operation. This investment brought 2,000 jobs to north Mississippi, and they didn't stop there. TMMMS has invested millions of dollars in schools, workforce training, and community service projects. It was an honor to share the stage with our state and local leaders to celebrate their anniversary and to see what their next project will be. Toyota announced they are going to build a $10 million visitor and interactive training center that will offer public tours of their manufacturing facility. Everyone will be able to see hardworking team members build the best-selling car in the world - the Toyota Corolla. Plant tours begin May 1, 2017.

Our work in the First District also included a look inside the CITE Armored plant in Holly Springs. In 2002, owners Teresa Hubbard and Ken Russell started repairing armored trucks used for cash transport. Over the years, they began manufacturing the armored body themselves to meet a growing demand. You can find their armored body in trucks used by SWAT teams among many others worldwide. I am proud to see their highly-skilled Mississippi workforce grow from five to 70 and the growing investment in our great state.
