Dear Friends,
Thank you for taking the time to read my weekly newsletter. The major legislative items on the House schedule included: passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 and consideration of a multiyear highway bill.
ACTIONS IN THE HOUSE
|
National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016
The House passed for the third time, with my support, the National Defense Authorization Act, which provides certainty and support for service members and their families. On October 22, the president put his domestic spending agenda above our troops and vetoed the conference agreement on the bipartisan NDAA. I am pleased that the House has continued its commitment to pass a defense authorization, and urge my colleagues in the Senate to quickly take up this legislation and the president to sign it into law.
Please take a few minutes to watch the video below. I am proud to stand up for our troops with my colleagues and fellow veterans, Rep. Steve Stivers (OH) and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (IL).
Multiyear Highway Bill
The current authorization for highway funding expires on November 20. This week, the House debated and voted on 126 amendments to the Senate's six year surface transportation bill. Now, the legislation moves to conference with the Senate to reconcile the differences. The final goal is to put forth a six year highway and transit reauthorization that is fully paid for and provides certainty for states funding long-term transportation infrastructure projects.

Academy day
|
Last Saturday, I hosted an annual Military Service Academy Day in Tupelo. We had over 100 people attend to learn about the five United States military academies and their admissions process. Here are some pictures from the event. If you are interested in learning more, please visit my website: Service Academy Nominations.
