Dear Friend,

Thank you for taking the time to read my weekly newsletter.

ACTIONS IN THE HOUSE

Reliable and Affordable Energy

This week, the House voted on legislation to protect access to reliable and affordable energy. Regardless of the impact to consumers or the economy, the president and Democrats in Congress are determined to eliminate fossil fuels as an energy source. One of the most common complaints I hear from people across the district is that regulations from Washington are killing jobs, innovation, and growth. In response to the president’s radical agenda, the House passed legislation to rein in the EPA and protect consumers from paying higher taxes.

H.R. 4775: Ozone Standards Implementation Act of 2016

  • Provides certainty for states and localities attempting to comply with EPA’s ozone standards and implementing rules.

H.Con.Res. 89: Congress Opposes a Carbon Tax

  • Expresses the sense of Congress that a carbon tax would be detrimental to American families and businesses and is not in the best interest of the United States.
H.Con.Res. 112: Congress Opposes the president’s proposed $10 tax on every barrel of oil
  • Opposes the president’s proposed $10 tax on every barrel of oil and urges Congress, when considering a tax policy change, to review the detrimental impacts such a change would place on industries facing economic difficulties.

Fiscal Year 2017 Appropriations Process

Legislative Branch

The House passed the Legislative Branch Appropriations bill, which provides funding for the Capitol complex. A provision in the bill includes a 100% pay freeze for Members of Congress. The freeze has been in place since 2010 and must be renewed annually.
