Hold the EPA Accountable
Mississippians deserve affordable and reliable energy, but the EPA continues to pass down rules and regulations that increase costs and hurt ratepayers. This week, I voted in support of two Senate-passed resolutions that disapprove of and invalidate the EPA’s rules to limit carbon emissions from new and existing power plants.
The Congressional Review Act is a tool Congress can use to overturn major rules issued by federal agencies before the rules take effect. The EPA is acting as a rogue agency, and I am proud to support legislation that empowers the American people instead of unelected bureaucrats in Washington.
Comprehensive Energy Bill
The House passed H.R. 8, the North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act, to modernize our outdated energy laws and unleash economic growth. This legislation takes advantage of our abundant domestic energy resources and keeps energy prices affordable and service reliable. H.R. 8 amends current law to cut existing red tape and advance energy infrastructure development, enhance domestic energy security, and promote energy efficiency and government accountability. Our nation's energy laws were written in a time of scarcity and dependency but new technologies have led to an American energy renaissance. Our laws should be updated to reflect new realities of increased development and production due to technological advances in the energy sector.
Small Business Committee
This week, I had the opportunity to Chair the Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access Subcommittee hearing regarding how the tax extender debate and much needed tax reform will affect small businesses. One of my primary goals in Congress is to help create an environment where small businesses can create jobs and grow the economy while Washington stays out of the way.
