Dear Friends,
Thank you for taking the time to read my weekly newsletter. During the district work week, I had the privilege of attending Veterans Day events, touring local businesses, and visiting with students.
VETERANS DAY EVENTS
|
As a veteran, attending and speaking at Veterans Day events are especially important and meaningful to me. When I was a child, I remember attending Neshoba Baptist Church with my grandfather on Veterans Day and Memorial Day. The pastor would ask the veterans in the congregation to stand up and be recognized for their service. It didn't matter how aged or tired they were, they all stood up tall and proud to have served their country. I looked up to them and wanted to be like those proud men who served their country with honor and dignity.
I think it's important to highlight the significant role families play in honoring veterans. Men and women in uniform could not do what they do without their families. While I was deployed, my wife, Sheila, raised our children and managed the household. Veterans Day is not just about thanking veterans but also their families for the significant sacrifices they made so their loved one could serve.
