National Prayer Breakfast
The National Prayer Breakfast is an annual event that takes place on the first Thursday of February in Washington, D.C. This was my first National Prayer Breakfast and I was pleased to attend with some friends from Mississippi. As a soldier, district attorney, and congressman, I find strength, comfort, and guidance through daily prayer and reflection. While it may sometimes feel under attack, we are fortunate to live in a country that respects religious freedom and the ability to freely exercise one's faith without fear of persecution.

Reconciliation
At the beginning of the year, Congress passed legislation that repeals Obamacare and defunds Planned Parenthood. Additionally, this legislation would reduce the federal deficit by $516 billion dollars. As promised, the president vetoed the legislation. This week the House voted to override the president’s veto, but due to House Democrats the measure failed to reach the required two-thirds majority vote. Some people have said this was a symbolic, show vote and I understand those opinions. To me, this vote clearly shows the American people where their representative stands on Obamacare and Planned Parenthood and highlights the importance of electing a Republican president. I will continue to work with my colleagues to pass legislation that puts the people in charge of their heathcare decisions, not the federal government.
Agriculture
Agriculture is a top industry in Mississippi, contributing $7.9 billion to the state economy and employing roughly 260,000 Mississippians. I serve on the House Agriculture Committee and take my responsibility of representing issues important to our state seriously. This week I had the opportunity to discuss agriculture issues with members of the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation. We had a great discussion, and I appreciate their input and insight.
