Dear Friend,

Last week, the House Small Business Committee held a field hearing in Southaven to talk with small business owners to see how their operations were fairing. Chairman Steve Chabot and I appreciated the opportunity to listen to their stories and to ask questions.  Click here to read my column in the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.

ACTIONS IN THE HOUSE

2018 Farm Bill

Last week, the House passed, with my support, H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018.  This legislation seeks to support our nation's farmers, protect national security, and allow Americans in poverty to get much needed job training to help lift them up.  The House spent over two years holding hearings and listening to experts in the field on how the 2014 bill worked for some of America's hardest workers and most vulnerable citizens.  Our nation's farmers and ranchers need adequate safety nets  as farm income continues to decline and talks of trade wars loom.

It has been vital to work with members of Mississippi's agriculture industry and to make sure they have a voice in Washington.  Industry leaders and producers have continued to keep me informed on how farm bill programs have been working for them.  We have made great strides together to make sure this legislation works for not only our farmers, but also our communities in the district and throughout Mississippi.
