Dear Friend,

Thank you for taking a couple of minutes to read my weekly newsletter. This week, I wanted to discuss the upcoming vote in Congress regarding the Iran nuclear agreement. Below, I outline why I oppose the Iran deal and actions Congress is taking to block the agreement.

working to stop a bad deal with iran

I believe the primary role of the federal government is to keep the country and American people safe from threats to our national security. I will oppose the Iran nuclear agreement because it is dangerously shortsighted and jeopardizes the safety and security of the United States and our allies throughout the world. In July, along with 218 of my colleagues in the House, I cosponsored H.Res.367, a resolution that expresses disapproval of the nuclear agreement.

Each day we have to review the agreement, the worse it gets. The agreement preserves Iran’s nuclear program, legitimizes the largest state sponsor of terror, and gives the Iranian government billions of dollars in sanctions relief. Further, the agreement turns our back on our steadfast ally, Israel and threatens regional stability in the already hostile Middle East.

Even more troubling, we recently learned that that the agreement contains at least two secret side agreements involving inspection of Iranian military complexes. These side agreements have not been submitted to Congress. This is unacceptable – no member of Congress should be asked to vote for an agreement of such significance to our national security without having all of the information. Last month, I joined more than 200 of my House colleagues on a letter to the president requesting that he give the text of these documents to Congress for review.

Congress is expected to vote on the agreement in mid-September. Rest assured that I will continue to work with my colleagues to stop this misguided and dangerous agreement.
