Dear Friend,
In Mississippi and across our great Nation, ceremonies were held to honor our men and women in law enforcement. We thanked those who watch over at this hour and remember the service and sacrifice of those who lost their lives in the line of duty. In Congress, it is our duty to make sure they have the support they need to protect lives and property - and safely return home to their families. As National Police Week comes to a close and we recognize Peace Officers Memorial Day on Saturday, please remember to thank them for their service.

World War II Veterans have a special place in my heart. More than 80 years ago, America called on these men and women to travel to distant lands - places they had never heard of, to defend the freedoms we all enjoy. Can you imagine what it must have been like for families back home who had no idea if their loved one was safe or not?
Bradford Freeman enlisted in the U.S. Army in December 1942, fulfilling a dream to become an airborne paratrooper. He was an original member of the Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles. On June 5, 1944, D-Day, Mr. Freeman and his fellow soldiers jumped into the war behind enemy lines, fighting every major battle until they landed in the Eagle's Nest, Adolph Hitler's mountaintop retreat.
Recently, Mr. Freeman celebrated his 96th birthday. In recognition of his courage and bravery in battle and for being an outstanding citizen, our team presented him with a Congressional Record Insert. Adam Napier, a member of our team, records the stories of our Veterans in Mississippi for the Library of Congress's Veterans History Project. Recently, my colleagues and I on the House Agriculture Committee met to discuss broadband technology and how to end the "Digital Divide." Great progress is being made in Mississippi's First Congressional District to provide this essential service. More Mississippians have access to high-speed internet which opens the door to telemedicine, distance learning, and teleworking. Additionally, farmers must have access to broadband in order to operate equipment using precision agriculture technology. As Mississippi's top industry, we must do everything in our power to meet the needs of our farmers. We will continue to explore ways to provide the resources needed to connect rural Mississippi to the world.
