March 31, 2017
Dear Friend,
We are fortunate to have hard working Mississippians who know the value of holding down a good job. Their commitment continues to attract the attention of major manufacturers who have made our state ninth in the nation in manufacturing employment. It is exciting to see that investment continue to grow in the Golden Triangle where Steel Dynamics, Inc. cut the ribbon this week on a $100 million new paint facility.
The company broke ground on the Paint Line in January 2016 and completed the project in record time. More than 40 new employees will coat 250,000 tons of steel annually that is manufactured in the nearby 1.8 million square foot, state-of-the-art mill. This investment shows the company's great faith in our people and the region.

Honest and Open New EPA Science Treatment (HONEST) Act of 2017
It is important to protect the environment and to do so with information we know to be true. For years, The Environmental Protection Agency has issued rules based on scientific data that is not available to independent scientists or the public. This lack of transparency has led to burdensome, costly rules that have a negative economic impact on our farmers, manufacturers, and small business operators, among many others. On Wednesday, I was proud to support H.R. 1430, the Honest and Open EPA Science Treatment (HONEST) Act of 2017, which passed the House 228-194. If something is bad for the environment, Mississippians and all Americans deserve to have access to the facts.
EPA Science Advisory Board Reform Act of 2017
To further ensure that our environment is protected with common sense, unbiased policies, it is important for the EPA Science Advisory Board to be composed of members who have the best interests of Americans as their top priority - not their own agendas. On Thursday, the House passed H.R. 1431, the EPA Science Advisory Reform Act of 2017, by a vote of 232-191. I supported this legislation that will establish additional qualifications for members, reinforce independence of the Board, and ensure public participation.

MSU lady bulldogs make history
|
This is an exciting time for Mississippi State University's Lady Bulldogs basketball team and for all their fans. They have advanced to the NCAA Final Four semi-finals in Dallas, Texas. This is the first time in the program's history that the Lady Bulldogs have come this close to winning a national title. Whatever the outcome, their hard work and determination has made us all proud.
