Dear Friends,
Thank you for taking the time to read my weekly newsletter. At the end of September, the House passed a Continuing Resolution (CR) that provided funding for the federal government until today, December 11, 2015. Since House and Senate negotiators have not finalized an omnibus appropriations bill, another short-term CR was passed to keep the government funded through Wednesday, December 16, 2015.

Upcoming Omnibus Appropriations Bill
I hope the additional five days will allow negotiators to put forth an omnibus appropriations bill that reduces the size and scope of the federal government and adequately addresses executive overreach. It is my understanding that the text of the omnibus will be released early next week to allow legislators and the American people three full days to read the legislation before Congress votes on it. I will keep you updated as I learn more.
President Obama's address on terrorism
Like many of you, I watched President Obama’s address from the Oval Office to discuss the threats from radical Islamic terrorism facing the United States. If you were like me, you were left with more questions than answers and more disappointment than reassurance on how the United States plans to eliminate our enemy. Instead of attacking American’s Second Amendment rights or preaching about American values, I would have preferred the president outline a revised counterterrorism strategy on what the United States plans to do differently to confront and eradicate radical Islamic extremists both abroad and at home. The president’s current policy is failing, and if he wants Congress to act, he must put forth a comprehensive strategy to defeat ISIS.
An honor
I want to close on a positive note. This week I had the opportunity to meet America's oldest living veteran, Frank Levingston of Lake Charles, Louisiana, who recently turned 110 years old. Mr. Levingston served in the Army during World War II and traveled to DC this week to participate in the 74th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor at the National World War II Memorial. Mr. Levingston is an example of what makes America great and it was an honor to meet him.
